What is bronze wrapped bearing strip?
Bronze wrapped bearing strip is a flat strip manufactured from premium CuSn8 phosphor bronze alloy that is used to produce custom plain bearings, bushes, thrust washers, wear plates, and other sliding components. It offers excellent wear resistance, high load capacity, and good lubrication retention, making it ideal for heavy-duty industrial applications.
When should I use solid bronze instead of a lined bearing strip?
Choose solid bronze bearing strip when your application involves high loads, slow speeds, oscillating motion, or shock loading and grease or oil lubrication is available. Compared to PTFE- or acetal-lined bearing strips, solid bronze provides greater structural strength, excellent machinability, and superior performance in demanding construction, mining, agricultural, and heavy industrial applications.
What sizes of WMB® bearing strip are available?
Bowman's WMB® bearing strip is available in a range of standard dimensions to suit the manufacture of custom plain bearings and wear components. If your application requires a non-standard width, thickness, or length, our engineering team can recommend the most suitable material specification.
Can I cut WMB® bearing strip to custom size?
Yes. WMB® bronze bearing strip is specifically designed for machining and fabrication into custom bearing solutions. It can be cut, formed, and machined to produce bespoke bushes, flanged bearings, thrust washers, wear strips, and other sliding components to meet your exact application requirements.
How do I use bronze strip to make a bushing?
Bronze bearing strip is typically cut to the required dimensions, rolled into a cylindrical shape, and machined where necessary to achieve the required internal and external tolerances. The finished bushing can incorporate lubrication grooves, pockets, or holes depending on the application's lubrication requirements. Bowman's engineering team can also advise on material selection and manufacturing best practices for custom bearing designs.
