What is acetal lined bearing strip?

Acetal lined bearing strip is a composite POM bearing material used to manufacture custom bearing components for lubricated applications. Bowman WMX® bearing strip consists of a carbon steel backing, a porous sintered bronze interlayer, and an acetal co-polymer sliding surface, providing excellent wear resistance, dimensional stability, and reliable performance in rotary and oscillating applications.

When should I use acetal instead of PTFE bearing strip?

Acetal bearing strip is recommended for wet-running or grease-lubricated applications where higher loads and good wear resistance are required. PTFE bearing strip is generally better suited to dry-running applications with little or no lubrication. The best choice depends on your operating conditions, including load, speed, and lubrication.

What sizes of WMX® bearing strip are available?

Bowman supplies WMX® bearing strip in a comprehensive range of standard metric and imperial sizes to suit a wide variety of engineering applications. If a standard size is not suitable, Bowman can also provide bespoke solutions through its in-house machining service.

Can I cut WMX® bearing strip to custom size?

Yes. WMX® bearing strip can be cut, formed, and machined into custom bearing components. Bowman offers an in-house machining service to manufacture bespoke bushings, thrust washers, wear plates, guide strips, and other components to meet exact customer specifications.

How do I use bearing strip to make a bushing?

Bearing strip is cut to the required dimensions, rolled into a cylindrical shape, and fitted into a housing to create a custom bushing. This method enables engineers to produce non-standard bearing sizes where off-the-shelf components are unavailable, making WMX® bearing strip an ideal solution for OEM production, equipment repairs, and replacement applications.
