What is an acetal lined thrust washer?
An acetal lined thrust washer is a composite bearing component designed to support axial loads while providing low-friction movement in lubricated applications. Bowman WMX® washers feature a carbon steel backing, a porous sintered bronze interlayer, and an acetal co-polymer sliding surface, offering excellent wear resistance, durability, and reliable performance in rotary and oscillating applications.
When should I use acetal instead of PTFE for a thrust washer?
Acetal-lined thrust washers are best suited to wet-running or grease-lubricated applications involving higher loads and rotary or oscillating motion. PTFE-lined washers are generally preferred for dry-running applications with little or no lubrication. The choice depends on the operating environment, load, speed, and lubrication conditions.
Can WMX® washers run in wet or lubricated conditions?
Yes. WMX® POM thrust washers are specifically designed for wet-running and lubricated environments. Their acetal co-polymer sliding surface delivers low friction, excellent wear resistance, and long service life when operating with grease or other suitable lubricants.
What sizes of WMX® washers are available?
Bowman supplies WMX® washers in a comprehensive range of standard metric and imperial sizes to suit a wide variety of industrial applications. Standard stock sizes enable fast delivery, while technical support is available to help select the correct washer for your application.
Can I order custom WMX® washer sizes?
Yes. Bowman offers an in-house machining service to manufacture WMX® washers in bespoke dimensions. Custom internal diameters, external diameters, thicknesses, and other specifications can be produced to meet the requirements of OEMs, replacement parts, and specialised engineering applications.
